Content Marketing! Does It Matter?

What is it about content that makes 61% of consumers say they feel better about a company that delivers custom content and more likely to buy from that company? Or why is interesting content a top 3 reason people follow brands on social media?

Well as humans there are really only a few ways we communicate ideas with each other. Either spoken, written, and if you’re really cool you know a thing or two about non-verbal sign or body language. But most common, written and verbal.

Strangely enough content marketing is left out of the marketing mix for many and it happens more often than it should. Yes it does take some time to create but so does a lasting presence online.

Content marketing is the marketing and business process for creating and distributing relevant and valuable content to attract, acquire, and engage a clearly defined and understood target audience – with the objective of driving profitable customer action.

One of the biggest benefits of creating your own original content is that it’s 100% free and targets your audience.

Creating original content will also be one of your strongest assets when converting traffic through your email marketing where most fall flat on their face.

  • The average cost to generate a lead through inbound marketing ($143) is about half the average for outbound marketing ($373).
  • 90% of consumers find custom content useful and 78% believe that organizations providing custom content are interested in building good relationships with them. (TMG Custom Media)
  • Social media sites and blogs reach 8 out of 10 of all U.S. Internet users and account for 23% of all time spent online. (Content Marketing Institute)
  • Blogs give websites 434% more indexed pages and 97% more indexed links. (Content+)
  • B2B companies with blogs generate 67% more leads per month on average than non-blogging firms. (Social Media B2B)

Quality content drives quality traffic and leads and it makes sense. Your job when creating content is to create the best response or solution for a question you are answering when people search. That is it!

However it’s the quality that dictates the trust and authority you gain. It’s not spamming your content through the social media-sphere or a crazy sales page or pitch that gains the trust and authority. It’s you being there and providing valuable answers.

Everyday, 20% of Google searches have never been searched before. Better better be there to answer them

What’s special about the information age we live in is the wide range of content platforms that are available for FREE. The thing with these platforms is that they get high volumes of traffic and allow for social signals and indicators. Here are some major ones…

  • Website / Blog
  • Video
  • Podcasts
  • Document Sharing sites
  • Article Submission sites
  • Press release sites
  • Memes
  • Social media platforms
  • Forums
  • Webinars
  • Info graphics
  • Images
  • Online magazines
  • And on and on…

When it’s all said and done we are simply using content to gain the only thing that matters online and that is trust and authority.

This is why your voice and opinion matters when writing your blog posts and pages, creating your videos, recording your podcasts, etc.

People want to get best information from the sources they trust and chances are if they trust you with your content then they will probably trust you with their money.

So starting today, especially if you are looking to build a lasting, income generating presence online, learn how content marketing will increase your brands perception and customer base. Fortunately it has worked for me and many others as well.
